I'm a Dream Portal Developer
« on: October 06, 2009, 02:08:47 AM »
Hey, just wanted to let you all know that I have been recruited to help develop a new, and even cooler Portal System than Simple Portal, called, Dream Portal.  So I am officially 1 of the Developers (currently labeled as Assistant Developer, but will soon change) for DREAM PORTAL which currently has 3 developers if you count me.

Well, just wanted to share my excitement with all of you here at GM.  Hopefully the release of DP will be soon, now that I'm on board.

Cheers :)

I'll try, but they are some very talented Developers with me on this.  I'm sure we can all learn a bunch of great things and have tons of fun! :)

Nice one SoLo, that should keep you out of trouble,

on a side note, I have tried many Portals in the past, but will stick with Tinyportal. (which btw is almost ready for smf 2)

Hmmm, well, a few things come to mind.

The ability to have more than 3 columns with each being size adjustable would be real nice.

If there will be a custom pages type mod - being able to have search focus on custom pages would be great.

A block for tag clouds - super cool.

An article system that doesn't rely on the articles themselves being actual posts but rather independant with an index page - way cool.

On perhaps a side note - he who puts together a proper and stable blog mod would rule the world

I'm using the tag mod (like many all important SMF mods - its far from perfect at the moment) but it creates a seperate page with a cloud on it which really doesn't make sense. If that tag cloud could be placed in a block then it would be useful.

Sorry, for taking so long to get back with you on this.  Just so busy updating my mods and working on this Post Ratings MOD, which is going to be the coolest thing since Ice Cream!  Another thought of selling it, but will most likely give it away for FREE again :(

That Cloud, err Tag mod, sounds a bit funny.  Should've known vbgamer45 was behind it ;)

Well, there is already a blog system put into place for SMF on DP.

I'm currently placed in charge of the Admin Panel for Dream Portal at the moment.

Cheers :)

The Tag cloud does have some seo uses if it could be placed in a block. Otherwise its kinda useless.

DP gonna have a blog??!! :thumbsup:That is awesome and a total game changer. Cant wait to see all the goods you got going on.

Congrats!  Say, I went to the link you provided and am trying to find an area (perhaps even an example page) which might show the 'bells and whistles' that'll be included.  Is there anywhere to kinda see it in action or at least a description of what it is that is hoped to be accomplished?

The page you went to should've been http://dream-portal.net/ and it is installed already there.  So what you see there is what is done already.  It's about 52% completed.

This sounds really interesting!
Will it be like Tiny Portal?
I haven't yet installed SMF 2.0, since I've been waiting for Tiny Portal to be compatible with it.
I've checked out SimplePortal but I really didn't like it as much as I like TP.

Honestly, I think it's going to be the best Portal software out.  But, if you don't mind me asking, what is it that you like so much about Tiny Portal over Simple Portal?

Cheers :)

I will for sure download and try out the Dream Portal at my localhost when the public release is out!

hm.. well perhaps "like" isn't the correct word. It's more like I prefer it over the simple portal, mostly because I'm lazy and I already have it installed and made some custom blocks. Besides that I kinda feel that TP has been around some years, and have a great support.

It's funny that you mention Tiny Portal though, since I have been in charge of creating a Converter to convert from Tiny Portal to Dream Portal, opps, scratch that, will be doing EZPortal, not Tiny Portal!  My Bad.

Yayyyy Solo,
This is great news and I am so excited for you. Another genius! I am tech illiterate and admire those who like all that tech stuff. I hope to see it and most likely I will like it.
Don't be sad if you don't sell it. Be happy because you will be so blessed with your gift that you share with others. Already you got a blessing by being promoted and I bet more blessings will come your way.
Love,
Olivia

Well, for what it's worth, let's just say, I've been doing a lot for Dream Portal and it's a ton of FUN :)
