New Feature - Signature Image Rotator
« on: May 27, 2009, 10:43:40 AM »
New feature added in all user Profiles.  By going to your Profile and then Modify Profile -> Forum Profile, you will notice a feature called, Signature Image Rotator and looks something like this:

Brief Description:  This will allow you to upload multiple images and use all of these images as 1 image url that you will input into your Signature.

Let's get started.  Click on the Browse... button and search for a picture in any of the supported formats listed, in this example I chose PNG, and then click the Upload button.

Ok, once this is done, you will be right back at the top of my Profile -> Modify Profile -> Forum Profile page again.  When you scroll down you should see the picture that you uploaded along with the generated image url for your group of images in here.  Here is what it looks like for me:

I have numbered and highlighted some areas so that I can discuss them further below.

1 This is your image URL Code.  This is the URL that needs to be added to the Signature box just below the Signature Image Rotator.  Like this:

You can also use this url at any other site/forum.

2 This is where all of your images will be located and can select these images in the drop down area.  After selecting the image you will be able to see this image just below in section 4.

3 Here are some actions that you can do to the selected images in section 2.  You can delete just 1 of your images or all of your images.

Important - If there is only 1 image in the drop down list in section 2, and you click on the Delete button, it will delete the image URL also.  Same thing when you click on the Delete All button, you will be taken to a confirmation page that explains this also.  But this will delete all of the images and the image path will no longer be available.  So it is very important that if you want to keep the image path url, that you have atleast 2 images in section 2 before deleting an image with the Delete button, otherwise it will also delete the image path url located on GM.

4 This section displays the image that you have selected in section 2.

And ofcourse you already know how to Add Images as we covered this in the first couple of paragraphs of this topic.

So have fun creating your signature images and ENJOY this new feature.

Is 150 px the highest this rotator support? I love the rotator by the way. I also like the personal touch of the "thank you Olivia for reading my post". That blew me away. You are a genius!

Welcome to Graphics Mayhem Olivia and yes I think Shortie is a genius also but he is way to modest to ever admit it. And yes 150px by 550px is the biggest you can go. :D
P.S keep looking around I think you will find some other stuff that blows you away .We are also a very friendly helpful bunch he at Graphics Mayhem. :)

150 px is the biggest in height here at GM, however it supports images of any size according to what you have set within the Admin -> Configuration -> Features and Options -> Signatures Max Width & Max Height.  So setting these areas to 0 will allow images of any dimensions.  Hopefully this answers your question.  I think I may have misunderstood your question at first.

Thank You very much Olivia.  This project was actually the most fun for me.  Glad you like it.

Thank you for explaining the rules on the image rotator. Is this a gadget I can download and use for my forum? If so how do I go about getting it installed?

I am just amazed at all the tricks and tips and I like this forum style too. I use FireFox/Mozilla as my browser since IE seems to mess with my forum and I tried IE 7 and 8. What a disaster!!!!! I had to reformat my computer after that. Although I did get an external hard drive out of the deal. I love to do graphics and feel real lucky that I have an external HD now.

I am still looking around, what a joy. You all are so nice.
Hugs,
Olivia

Olivia, this is a MOD Package located in the Downloads Section, within the SMF Mods & Addons Category.  You will need to have SMF 2.0 RC1 or SMF 2.0 RC1-1 installed before you will be able to install the Signature Image Rotator MOD via Admin -> Packages -> Download Packages -> Upload Packages area (at the bottom in there).

Do you have an SMF forum up and running yet?  If so, just be sure that it has been updated to the latest version of SMF (2.0 RC1-1) and then you can download the Signature Image Rotator MOD ==> DOWNLOAD Signature Image Rotator 1.2
Once you have downloaded it, go to your forums Admin Menu, click on Packages -> Download Packages and in the Upload Package area (at the bottom) click browse to select the package and then Upload.  Once this is done you will see the Signature Image Rotator package in there, click on "Apply Mod" and then Install button.  It will automatically install the mod and then redirect you to the settings for this MOD.  Make sure you also check out your permissions and set them accordingly for each usergroup (guests are not permitted to use this mod at all, so you will not see any permissions for guests on this, but all other usergroups you should set).

Any more questions on this, would be glad to help out.

Thanks for the comments

I am always developing this theme - and different colours to join its ranks (currently working on something different - so watch this space) If you like this one and are after a specific colour I can probably do one for ya and add it to my colections

All the best

Shortie

Yes I have updated to 2.0 RC 1-1 well the latest anyway. I succesfully installed the sig rotator too.

Got a couple more questions though.

Where did you get your smileys? The ones I have seen are awful.

Is it easy enough to put my Forum name at the top of this theme you have here?

I really appreciate the helpful advise.

Do you accept donations? I can't give much but I don't mind. I am on a very low budget and with GM going bankrupt I will have to go apply for SSI disability.
I think you deserve some monetary award for your dedication on helping others.
Hugs,
Olivia
