You can find a PC that will do the graphics , games and such but a PC that is upgradable and usable for 20 years I don't think that will be possible if you buy a top of the line PC you might be able to get 10 years out of it if you are lucky .
Most PC's are obsolete in about 5 years there is always something new and improved just around the corner computers are constantly evolving as are operating systems look what happened when Windows Vista came out everyone was mad because it did not work on their old XP PC's.

My suggestion is you by the best you can afford and don't get caught in all the hype because unless you are rich you can't keep up with the ever changing PC hardware . What is new today is old next week . :)

I can tell you how to give your PC some extra speed get an SSD hard drive I just installed one of the slower kingston SSD's its only 60GB but I don't store much on the laptop because I have network storage which is more convenient for me as everything is backed up and can be retrieved from any PC on my Home network.   It made a very noticeable difference over the mechanical drive in my laptop which was a pretty decent hard drive itself . My brother installed an OCZ vertex 2 in his laptop which is even faster his laptop boots super quick and is very responsive .
When the SSD's get cheaper I want to get a larger one for my desktop quad core my guess is it will be super fast with one of those inside. :)
