Making a Theme
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:19:04 AM »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this.
I am attempting to make my own theme based on Curve using a tutorial on the SMF site.

Currently have it up at my site, but would like to make it much better.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am very open to ideas and thoughts, and will also share the designer title with someone willing to take a stab at this with me.

Okay some things

Lose the bevel on the menu buttons - or - tone it down a little bit as subtle is better

Get you background colours to match the theme do a CTRL F5 and you will see what I mean

Change the copyright colour to a more pleasing look

There is a serious JS Error which does not make the front Page update properly may be a  mod which is doing it - Looks like the bottom banner which is doing it - just a stab in the dark - nop had a look it seems as though it is in something on every page - have a look in you browser and you will see that the page is continually reloading

You need to change the colour on the link tree element also I would tone down the background colour just a little

Hey first impressions are good just need a little work but as I said may be a mod that is screwing the site

Shortie

P.S. shout for more input

What is the best size to use for a background?
1920px X 1200px?

Okay, i am having a problem figuring out why the dropdown menu style only goes as far as 6 lines down, then it goes to regular style.
image attached to give you an idea of what i mean.

Okay the tag to play with is

.dropmenu li li.additional_items

you either have no colour or one the same as the menu

now how to center the menu? I have searched and googled, but nothing found. Don't want to use a mod.

You are going to have to use some serious CSS frigging - it took me about 2 years to work it out as you have centre a justified double left float

there is a mod and if you parse it then it will point you in the right direction

But if you can give me the CSS I can have a look - the big issue is not having the browser give you a side scrollbar and to make sure the drop down menus  work as well
