SMF - Paid for Mods
« on: January 22, 2010, 04:02:49 PM »
My main focus nowadays is SMF mods but I might have time for extra Javascript on the side should an issue arise

What are you working on Live

as I should have some time tomorrow to do the Demo site so if you want anything installed - or you want to lend a hand then just shout but if you are like me at the moment then we a flat out

This also goes for any other MOD / THEME developers out there - but note all  MODS will have to go through SoLo / Live and at this moment in time THEME'S will go through me

What are you working on Live

For starters, some random mods hosted at the SMF site. I was working on a blogging system for SMF 2 but the7thghost showed me pmxBlog and so I decided to do something else. I'm starting on something called Dream Store which is an ecommerce system for SMF. Like SoLo, I'm seriously thinking of
offering pay-for mods.

Hey Live and SoLo if you can come up with a way of doing thing Pay Mod stuff - which is unobtrusive but fulfil's the needs - SoLo you should be able to get some ideas from the EDS mod which I still cannot get to work

Then I am happy to help out - BUT it has to integrate seamlessly if between you - you start some dialogue then It could be the next best mod  on the planet

Also Just need a 10% cut :D:Donly jesting

I can set up a private Board for the really serious people who can make this work this will need people Who will offer a large  degree of commitment as I can only be devils advocate here - and yet another note I can come up with the ideas just cannot code it

Yeah, that would be fine.  I'd be more than willing to help out.

Though, honestly, I am more concerned with the future of SMF right now.  I'll go ahead and create a topic on this in a sec...

Cheers :)

Would be nice to see some paid stuff go up, i know that sounds weird but you guys have helped me so much already it feels like i'm just mooching. I usually get a crazy idea or 2 that eventually makes sense so i can throw a few ideas in the pot from time to time.

Just my two cents...Paypal is trusted and has an easy to use interface.  Easy to add the button code.  Easy to transfer the funds into your own bank account.  They also have a debit card to use funds directly from your Paypal account.  I still prefer a Donate button over putting a price on the mods, will you also put a price on support...of course not.  But, a donation based on building and supporting a mod may have advantages...

A donate button sounds good in practice but I wonder if given the choice how many would actually donate I am on the fence on this one it really makes no difference to me seeing as I don't have anything much to offer when it come to themes and mods and I don't think anyone would pay for my graphics LOL. :)

it is Just  I do not like a donate button - as to me it sends out the wrong signals - just my view

My main view is if some thing is good it is worth paying for - I spend a fortune on software and hardware but you do pay for what you get

And again Dm has a very valid point and just to add to that IF I was doing this for a profit then do you think GM would still be here - if I had 100000 members a 1000000 post then I might have to think about it purely on delivery of service

But I think that is a long way off

Sorry, I just don't get the point of creating a whole separate board/section of GM just to add a mods with donate buttons near them.  If you want this, you can do this already in the Downloads Section.  I believe this topic pertains mainly to Paid-For mods/themes/software only!  And it would than be a valid cause, otherwise, why recreate what is already possible to do within the Downloads Section of GM?  Makes no sense, unless you are planning on getting rid of the Downloads section here at GM.

I think we give plenty away for free already I have myself made icons and buttons for people for free and I see no reason why someone who spends hours if not days creating a theme or a mod shouldn't get paid for it like Shortie said we pay money for the software we all use everyday nobody is giving it to us for free If Adobe ever starts giving Photoshop away for free please notify me immediately LOL. :)

My idea would be to have two versions, one free version, and one paid-for. The free one wouldn't be a "limited" version so much as a "lite" version.
